" Joppa History "
The History of the Churches in Grainger County, TN

“ Joppa Methodist Church 1881 “
Joppa Methodist Sunday School was organized in 1881.
John and Mary Morgan deeded ½ acre of land to Joppa Methodist Episcopal Church on December 26, 1921. John and Mary Morgan are buried at Sunrise Baptist Church Cemetery.
Joppa Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in 1922 with the Reverend W.R. Byreley as Pastor.
The present and only building was erected on the property and the building was dedicated on May 04, 1924.
The present membership (1986) is 72.
